Top 10 Most Important Materials to Recycle

We are going to discuss the top 10 most important recycled materials, today we will cover the first 5.  Recycling diverts material that can easily be reused in some way, rather than sitting in a landfill for years.  It is better for the environment to learn more about recycling and to actually practice recycling in your home and businesses.

#1 Aluminum – Aluminum is 100% recyclable, and can  be recycled over and over again.  When you recycle a can, you use 95% less energy than making a new one.

#2 PET Plastic Bottles – Americans buy about 50 billion single serving bottles of water a year.  80% of these bottles will end up in a landfill.

#3 Newspaper – According to the Environmental Protection Agency, paper makes up about one-third of the municipal waste stream in the U.S.

#4 Corrugated Cardboard – Old corrugated cardboard (OCC) represents a significant percentage of the commercial solid waste stream, approximately 1/3 to be exact.
