26 Jul Balers: The Importance of Hydraulic Oil
I am always surprised to see how few of our customers know how important their oil quality is. Just like your car or truck that requires an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles so does your baler. While most manufactures recommend changing the oil every year that might be a bit excessive for a vertical baler.
We recommend that you have your oil tested at least annually. For high volume baling systems we recommend testing your oil quarterly. We aren’t just talking about looking at the fluid level. We recommend taking an oil sample and sending it out to a lab to test the qualities and composition of the oil. By checking the oil on a regular basis you can create a graph that will monitor the properties of the oil. This can help you anticipate things from pump failures to oil breakdown. All of this information can keep your baler running at peak performance.
Don’t forget to change the air filter as well. All hydraulic tanks are taking in air as the oil is pumped out into the cylinder. This air passes through the air filter eliminating impurities from entering the tank. This is a simple and easy replacement that you can do yourself or through a qualified service provider.
So to help keep your baler running as effectively as possible don’t forget to check or change your hydraulic oil. If you need help or information on how to do this feel free to let us know and we’ll be happy to help.
