14 Sep Summit SHRED LAB Increases Capacity Without Expanding Its Facility
THE CHALLENGE
Summit SHRED LAB (Potsdam, NY) had outgrown its existing equipment. Its previous P-3 shredder used a bagging system and could process approximately one ton of paper per day.
The company needed to increase capacity and improve its workflow without moving to a larger facility.
THE SOLUTION
Ely Enterprises developed an integrated system with a larger shredder, bin tipper, conveyor and baler—all designed to fit within the company’s existing footprint.
Instead of sending shredded material into a drop bin, the conveyor feeds it directly into the baler. Cameras allow one shred technician to monitor and operate the system.
“From our initial consultation to the onsite placement of our new shredder, bin tipper, conveyor and baler, we were very pleased with the service and support we received. The Ely team took the time to understand our needs, helped us select the right equipment for our operation, and remained responsive and committed throughout the process.”
— Marie & Ivan, Summit SHRED LAB
THE ELY TEAM
The project had some growing pains as the system was installed and refined, but the Ely team remained involved until the issues were corrected.
“Everyone from Ely who came on-site had a real investment in making sure the equipment worked well. We had growing pains, but Ely corrected them. That’s how we judge a company—not only when everything works efficiently, but by how they fix a problem when something needs attention.”
— Marie & Ivan, Summit SHRED LAB
Marie specifically remembered Donny as one of the Ely team members who worked on-site. She also praised Tina for connecting the company with a broker and a similarly sized shredding operation that remains a valuable industry contact.
THE RESULTS
The completed system increased shredding capacity from one ton to five tons per day, improved material flow and allowed one shred technician to operate the system when necessary.
Summit SHRED LAB can continue growing within its current facility and take on work it could not handle before, including military projects.
Today, Summit SHRED LAB has an efficient system that supports its current production needs and continued growth.
