07 Jun Single or Dual Stream Recycling?
Today we are going to talk about the recycling process. Do you know the difference between single and dual stream recycling? Don’t worry you are not alone.
Think about recycling in your home for a moment? Do you put all of your recyclables into one bin or do you separate them? Essentially that is the difference between the different stream types.
- Single Stream recycling involves placing all of your recyclables into the same bin for curbside pickup.
- Dual Stream Recycling requires separation of the recyclables into different bins. Paper and Cardboard products in one, plastic in another, so on and so forth.
Single stream recycling has become the most popular method of recycling, but this process faces criticism because of contamination challenges by waste and recycling processors. Dual Stream isn’t without its headaches either, it can be costly and less productive than single stream.
Next week we will discuss both processes and visit the pros and cons of each stream type.
